Unfortunately, the biggest outdoor fair in Europe didn’t take place yet because of the spreading virus, but Meopta Optika s.r.o. did provide us with all the news for 2020 from their side. The Optika 6 rifle scopes are a great success, and because of that Meopta chose to introduce a completely new series of rifle scopes with a zoom factor of 5x. There are also some upcoming binoculars for 2020, so if you are interested – the article is available here.
Meopta MeoPro Optika 5
The Meopta MeoPro Optika 5 line of rifle scopes is a successor line of the well-known MeoPro series which comprises 3x zoom factor rifle scopes designed for hunting. Like the older generation, Optika 5 rifle scopes feature capped turrets for protection against accidental movement of the internal adjustment. The turrets are now zero-resettable. This is especially handy if the user changes the ammunition or attaches a silencer, moving the point of impact. The clicks on the turrets are in ¼ MOA, so 1 click shifts the reticle for 7 mm at 100 meters.
The main tube diameter is 1 inch, which is the same as on the older generation, and with 160 cm (63 MOA) elevation range at 100 meters it can be used on any rifle. Thanks to the same main tube diameter, the rifle scopes can be exchanged without the need for a new mount. According to the 2020 product list forwarded to us, the main tube is now made of magnesium, so the housing is very strong and durable.
The Meopta MeoPro Optika 5 rifle scopes will be available in 6 different versions, each designed for a different purpose:
- MeoPro Optika 5 2-10×42
- MeoPro Optika 5 2-10×42 Rimfire
- MeoPro Optika 5 3-15×44
- MeoPro Optika 5 4-20×44
- MeoPro Optika 5 4-20×50
- MeoPro Optika 5 4-20×50 RD
Except for the MeoPro Optika 5 4-20×50 RD, all rifle scopes have a non-illuminated reticle – the letters RD stand for Red Dot. The reticle in all models is positioned in the second focal plane, so it stays the same on all magnifications. Meopta will offer 4 different reticles: Z-Plex, Zplus, Zplus RD and BDC 3 RD.
Meopta did a really good job with the glass and coatings since all Optika 5 rifle scopes offer a 91% light transmission rate. All glass elements are fully multi-coated with the MeoBright coating to ensure a maximum light transmission rate, and the outer lenses are additionally coated with the MeoDrop coating. This is a proprietary hydrophobic lens coating that repels water, grease and skin oils from the surface.
Rifle scopes with a magnification of 15x or higher will feature a side parallax adjustment, so the user can sharpen the image from 10 yards (9 meters) to infinity. All rifle scopes come with a throw lever for a faster magnification change.
Like the Meopta Optika 6 rifle scopes, the Optika 5 offers a lot of features for the price. The price depends on the model, but it goes from 349.99 USD up to 549.99 USD. Unfortunately, the European prices are not known yet. The Meopta Optika 5 rifle scopes will be a great replacement for the older MeoPro series since you get a lot more zoom, which helps for all-round hunting applications.
