PARD NV007 Digital Night Vision Attachment

PARD NV007

Introduction

PARD NV007 is currently one of the hottest items in the world of sports optics. For an insanely affordable price of 600 €, this digital night vision attachment delivers more than one can expect at this price point. The demand for this device is on the rise – in this short article, we are going to look at its features and explain why it currently ranks as one of the most sought-after night vision gadgets on the market.

Update 2020: PARD NV007A, second generation; Update 2021: PARD NV007S, third generation

In 2020, PARD released an upgraded version of their popular NV007 model, NV007A. They upgraded the display and added an LED to the housing. All the other characteristics of NV007A (second generation) are the same as on NV007 (first generation). A year later they introduced the third-generation model NV007S. PARD managed to produce a device that is less expensive than those made by the competition but with a decent optical performance still. Sure, its optics are not on the same level as those of the also-highly-popular Pulsar Forward F455, but we have to keep in mind that NV007 comes at half of F455’s price. The image quality is impressive for the money, and NV007 outperforms other popular digital night vision devices found in this price class (around 600 €). On top of that, it is the most affordable digital night vision attachment currently on the market – most devices found in this price class are of the monocular type. Furthermore, it is incredibly light at 250 grams, lighter than digital night vision devices made by other companies, and compact – it measures 106 mm in length, 97 mm in height, and 47 mm in width.PARD NV007

In contrast to most popular night vision attachments, PARD NV007 is mounted on the eyepiece of the riflescope instead of the objective. On top of that, you won’t have to spend any extra money on the adapter as it is already included in the box. Keep in mind, though, that the adapter included in the box is designed for eyepiece diameter of 45 mm, 45 mm being the maximum value. If the eyepiece of your riflescope is much wider (or narrower) than this, the adapter won’t fit. Luckily, you can also order a 42mm and 48mm adapter. Keep in mind that you can’t mount NV007 on riflescopes that have a battery compartment or any other protruding parts on the eyepiece. Swarovski Z6i and Z8i, for example, are not compatible with the adapter. The mounting procedure is different from what we are used too, but it works – use the supplied tape to achieve the required thickness of the eyepiece (this also prevents scratches to the riflescope once the adapter is fixed on), put the adapter on the riflescope and secure it by tightening the screws, making sure that the adapter is fixed in place. Once the adapter is mounted on the riflescope, attaching the NV007 to the adapter is incredibly simple – just press it on and rotate it until you hear a click. Removing it is just as simple, you have to pull the little button next to the objective back and rotate it in the counterclockwise direction – no additional tools are needed for attachment as well as removal.

Naturally, mounting the attachment on the eyepiece of a riflescope has advantages as well as disadvantages. The crucial advantage over the ones you mount on the objective is that it can be used as a monocular without any additional accessories – this is the case with NV 007, but we predict that other eyepiece attachments introduced in the future will be like this also. With the objective attachments, you usually need to buy an accessory that converts the device into a monocular. The disadvantage? Well, by mounting the adapter on the eyepiece you significantly reduce the eye relief, meaning that mounting NV007 on hard-kicking rifles is inadvisable. Any cartridge that produces recoil stronger than .308 is unsafe to be combined with PARD NV007 as the backward movement of the rifle after the shot can cause injuries to the shooter’s face.PARD NV007

The buttons are located above the ocular of the device. They stick out of the unit, and since they are positioned in a logical manner, you won’t have problems locating them at night. The clicking sound that they produce is quite loud, which might be a problem if the observed animal is nearby as it can get startled by the noise. PARD powers on quickly, in a matter of seconds – the on/off button is in a separate place, on the upper part of the housing.

With PARD NV007, one can comfortably shoot up to 100 meters at night. Even shots farther than that are possible if the weather conditions are favourable, but the onboard IR-illuminator’s range won’t allow for long-range shots in the dark. The illuminator can be set to three intensity levels, while the beam can be easily focused by pulling out the illuminator hood. The wavelength of the beam is 850 nm. NV007 has a built-in laser which comes in handy during close-range shooting. The battery is removable, but a charger isn’t supplied. A USB-cable is supplied, but it is inadvisable to charge the battery while it is inserted into the device with this cable as it might damage the device and void the warranty – the cable’s main purpose is data transfer. PARD sells the charger separately. Once fully charged, NV007 will provide energy for up to 8 hours of use, depending on the set IR-illuminator strength and ambient temperature.PARD NV007

As if you aren’t getting more than you can ask for already, NV007 has other functions to impress you. I’m mainly referring to its recording capability. It captures video in Full HD (1920×1080), saving the .mp4 files directly to the inserted microSD card which the user has to buy extra. You can also take pictures.PARD NV007

It must be noted that NV007 works best with a riflescope that has an adjustable parallax. Mounting it on a fixed parallax riflescope is possible, but you will have some issues with the focusing should you do so. We recommend magnification power up to 6x for unpixellated images – in magnifications above this, the image will be too magnified resulting in a narrow field of view. Furthermore, you will not be able to navigate the menu. No zeroing is needed, just make sure to align the point of aim of the NV007 with the point of aim of the riflescope. Do this by accessing the device’s ‘Reticle Center Position Adjustment’ option in the menu. Also, it is of great importance that you mount the device properly, so that the image is already roughly centred after the mounting procedure. If you use the device as a monocular, you can use the digital zoom to magnify the observed objects.PARD NV007

Conclusion

For what it provides, the NV007 is inexpensive. PARD knows that keeping their devices at an affordable level will attract a bigger group of followers. They haven’t been around for long, but their penetration of the night vision market has been rapid and unexpected, which we can attribute to the excellent price/performance ratio of their products. NV007 devices are selling like hotcakes, and we can’t wait to see what else PARD has in store for us.PARD NV007
